Course Overview

This course will show you how to manage your emotions so you can remain in control instead of feeling like your emotions are in control of you. You will be introduced to emotion zones, where various emotions can be placed into various categories. Then you will learn how to identify your own zone and explore behaviors attached to those feelings and self-regulation skills so you can remain in your ideal state within each emotional zone. The feelings you have aren't good or bad, but they can be tricky. They can be especially challenging at your age as you grow from a kid to a teen. Let's go on an adventure and figure out what zone you're in and what to do about it!

1

Introducing Emotion Zones

Module one introduces the idea of assigning a color to specific emotions to draw awareness to how we are feeling and be able to identify emotions. Students will learn what feelings go with what colors and how they might behave or react to express those emotions. Students will also develop an understanding of why it's important to identify and manage their emotions.

Life In The Blue, Yellow, and Red Zone

This module dives deeper into emotions associated with the red, yellow and green zone. Students will explore what they may experience in their mind, body, feelings within each color zone. Students will then learn self-regulation strategies to use within each of the color zones that address their mind, body, and feelings to regain balance.

Life In The Green Zone

Module three focuses on the skills needed to be balanced and regulated in life. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the emotions found in the green zone and what their mind, body, and feelings experience when they are in this emotional state. They will also learn strategies to keep their mind, body, and feelings balanced to maintain their regulation.

The Planetarium

Students will learn how to apply their emotional awareness and self-regulation skills in life. Students will gain knowledge on how to cope and manage their feelings as they encounter unexpected stressors or triggers and move from zone to zone.

Meet Course Creator, Elizabeth Purpero

Hi, I'm Elizabeth Purpero! I'm a counselor and course creator who helps adolescents develop their social and emotional wellness. I’ll teach you how to build emotional awareness, and self-regulation techniques so you can care for your emotions and yourself as you navigate the stressors of this world. It can be hard knowing what to do with your feelings, especially during the middle school years but you can learn how to deal with them! I built my career as an autism and mental health therapist, school counselor, and academic advisor. I've developed knowledge and skills in social-emotional learning, mental wellness, and education. I've seen firsthand what kind of challenges kids face and the guidance they need to grow and flourish. Using my hands-on experience, along with my master's in school counseling and bachelor's in communication and creative writing I specialize in writing curriculum, digital learning activities, video scripts, blogs, and articles related to K-12 education, SEL, and mental wellness. I'm passionate about lifting learners up to increase their emotional intelligence and gain valuable life skills. I can't wait to see how you grow through this course. Let's get started!
