Course Overview

Self awareness and breath awareness lay the foundation for mindfulness and meditation. The act of tuning into your breath not only grounds you in the present moment, but nurtures a sense of calm and peace. As you cultivate self-awareness, you unlock an awareness of your environment, thoughts, and emotions. Through the learning of both breath awareness and self awareness, you are able to slowly hone the skill of being present and mindful. This allows you to become conscious of your surroundings, your mind, and your emotions. In this course, your child will learn how to connect to their breath, how to move their awareness within, and initiate thoughtful reflections in the present moment.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a practice of being present, slowing down, and having your mind focused on what you are doing. When you are mindful, you are also aware of how you are feeling and how your feelings might affect your current state. In this module, you will learn how to be present, how to be mindful, and why practicing mindfulness is important.

Self Awareness

Becoming self-aware is important when learning how to be more mindful. It is not often that we take the time to be aware of our minds and bodies, but doing this is essential in moving your awareness inward. In this module, you will learn how to move your attention to your mind and to your body, and self-reflect on any feelings or emotions that you may have.

Breath Awareness

Your breath can be your anchor in the present moment, in addition, tuning into your breath is a way to move your attention inside. In this module, you will learn how to listen to your breath, the best way to breathe during meditation, and the benefits of mindful breathing.

Meditation Practice

Now that you have learned about self awareness and breath awareness, you can start to meditate! In this module, you will learn about meditation and its benefits. Learn how to set up your meditation space and practice your first meditation.

Meet Course Creator, Mariel Reyes

Mariel is an engaging and experienced yoga and meditation teacher with over a decade of experience. She holds a 200-hour Meditation Teacher Training certificate from The Three Jewels, one of the most well-known meditation studios in New York City. As a seeker and student of meditation, she has taken part in meditation retreats from upstate New York, all the way to an ashram in India. Trained in the Tibetan Buddhist lineage, she brings her knowledge and understanding of ancient meditation teachings and practices and fuses them with simplicity and accessibility. She encourages children to be playful, curious, and inquisitive when exploring mindfulness and meditation. In addition to her expertise in meditation, yoga, and wellness, Mariel has more than 15 years of experience teaching children of all ages.
