Course Overview

Ready for your first fearLESSon? Tag along with a close-knit group of friends - Audrey, Wyatt, Millie, and Liam - each grappling with their unique fears ranging from stage-fright to social nerves. In this course, learners will come to understand the fundamentals of fear, including how it affects the mind and body. During their fear-fighting journey, the group of friends will gain valuable insights into identifying their own fears and developing strategies to manage them.

Understanding Fear

In this section, learners will come to understand the basics of fear. We'll explore where it comes from and its purpose. Learners will also understand what fear looks like and the way it manifests in our physical responses. Our main characters will learn that fear is not to be feared! It's a tool that can be used to help keep us safe.

Identifying Fears

In this section, our main characters will share their personal fears. Learners will journey along to learn how to identify and name their fears. We'll explore common fears, such as stage fright and social anxiety. Learners will leave this section with a better understanding of how to identify when they are feeling afraid and label their own fears.

Strategies for Fearlessness

Journey along as Audrey, Wyatt, Millie, and Liam learn strategies to combat their fears. We'll learn self-care strategies like breathing techniques and physical exercise to help calm their nerves. We'll also learn different approaches for managing fears, these include the gradual approach, the logical approach, and the reframing approach. Practice different approaches to see what works best for you. Rest assured there is a strategy for everyone!

Fearless Futures: Moving Forward

Join Audrey, Wyatt, Liam, and Millie as they learn how to build fearLESS futures. Learners will understand how fears can change and develop over time. They'll learn that fear never really goes away. Instead, we can recognize changing fears, identify resources to use when fears become too big, and learn how to offer support to others who are beginning their fear-fighting journey.

Meet Course Creator, Lauren Hudak

Lauren Hudak is an educator with over eight years of experience. After graduating from the University of Virginia with degrees in English Literature and Media Studies, she went on to get her Masters in Teaching from New York University. Lauren has worked with all ages of students from Pre-K through college, but she thrives when working with middle schoolers. She believes this is the perfect age to integrate mindfulness, technology, and social emotional learning into student learning objectives. She wants to help students conquer their fears and build a better world. When she’s not teaching, Lauren loves being outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family.
