Why CASEL-Aligned SEL Matters

Program Model: Strategic Impact (Cross-Grade Deployment)

The SEL Plus Program is a Strategic Impact initiative, not a grade-level curriculum. It is not developmentally staged by age. Instead, it is outcome-driven and designed for flexible district deployment wherever schools seek a consistent CASEL-aligned SEL foundation, stronger self-regulation and behavioral readiness, improved peer relationships, healthier classroom climate, reduced conflict escalation, and improved student engagement.

Recommended Grade Band: Grades 5–8 (Ages ~9–14)

Universal school-based SEL programs have demonstrated improved academic performance, reflecting an 11 percentile-point gain in achievement.

This program is most effective in upper elementary through early high school, when:

  • Peer relationships intensify
  • Identity and belonging become central
  • Regulation impacts academic readiness
  • Decision-making influences school climate
  • Social pressure and conflict become more complex

Districts deploy this program strategically to strengthen:

  • Self-awareness and identity reflection
  • Emotional regulation and coping
  • Social awareness and perspective-taking
  • Responsible decision-making and accountability
  • Communication, trust-building, and repair
  • Conflict navigation and de-escalation
SEL is not supplemental. It is foundational to learning conditions.

Program Overview: Strategic Impact Design

Unlike grade-level programs, this initiative is outcome-driven β€” not age-bound, not developmentally staged.

The SEL Plus Program (CASEL-Aligned) is a 28-week Strategic Impact initiative intentionally built to align directly with the five CASEL core competencies.

Core Strategic Question:

How do students develop the self-awareness, regulation, social understanding, decision-making, and relationship skills required to thrive academically and socially?

The program strengthens research-supported SEL drivers, including

Self-awareness and identity reflection
Emotional regulation and coping
Social awareness and understanding people dynamics
Responsible decision-making and accountability
Communication, trust-building, and repair
Conflict navigation and de-escalation

Courses progress intentionally from: Self-awareness β†’ Regulation β†’ Social awareness β†’ Decision-making β†’ Communication β†’ Relationships β†’ Conflict repair & applied SEL

This sequence mirrors CASEL’s competency structure and universal SEL implementation models.
