Course Overview

Eighth grader Alexandra is passionate about creating a safe, inclusive environment and promoting respect and empathy among her peers. This will only happen once she and her classmates can identify common forms of bullying, understand the dynamics that contribute to bullying and learn the impact of bullying. Your child can take this journey with Alexandra and develop strategies for intervention and advocacy.

Defining Bullying

In this section, learners dive into the issue of bullying led by the main character, Alexandra. Through discussions, she guides four classmates in preparing a presentation for National Bullying Month. The students define bullying, explore the various types of bullying, and touch on the prevalent issue of cyberbullying. Understanding what constitutes bullying equips all participants with the fundamental skills to identify such behaviors in themselves and others.

Signs of Bullying and Roles

In this section, learners work with Alex and her friends to recognize the signs of bullying and explore who is involved in a bullying situation. Through discussions and scenarios, participants will examine the roles of the person who is bullying, the target of bullying, and the bystander. Students will finish this section exploring ways to help. Understanding the behaviors of each of these individuals will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to intervene in bullying situations.

Bullying Impacts Everyone

In this section, learners join Alex and friends on a journey to explore the impacts of bullying. Through discussion and scenarios, participants will dive into the experiences of the target, bystander, and person who bullies. Learners will gain insights into the struggles faced by those directly and indirectly involved. Additionally, this section addresses legal aspects, informing students of their rights in bullying situations. This section fosters empathy, awareness, and empowerment, equipping participants to advocate for a bully-free world.

Taking Action

In this section, participants will join Alexandra and her classmates as they become advocates for a bully-free world both online and in-person. Discussions and examples guide learners in promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect. Topics include advocacy strategies against cyberbullying and getting help for those who experience bullying. The section concludes with a kindness challenge, where participants will create a plan to commit to spreading kindness in their own communities. Empowering students to be proactive agents of change, this section instills practical skills for addressing bullying in various environments, reinforcing the importance to the collective efforts in building a bully-free world.

Meet Course Creator, Chelsey Juenemann

Chelsey, a seasoned and adaptable educator, has dedicated two decades to creating interesting and diverse learning environments. She has mainly taught middle school English Language Arts but has experience with all subjects and grade levels. In 2023, she shifted from traditional classrooms to remote teaching, using her education skills to craft innovative learning experiences for students across the United States. Armed with two degrees, including a masters in instructional technology, Chelsey is committed to staying at the forefront of educational advancements. Her passion for technology integrations and versatile teaching methods makes her a dedicated and knowledgeable educator.
